Southern California Prepares for a Rainy Weekend

News Summary

Southern California is gearing up for a rainy weekend as a storm progresses from central California. With an 80% chance of rain in Los Angeles and cooler temperatures on the way, residents are advised to prepare for the wet weather. This rainfall is especially needed as the region has seen below-average precipitation this month. Snow is also expected in mountain areas, complementing the rainy conditions. Overall, the weather brings a cozy weekend ahead for locals.

Southern California Prepares for a Rainy Weekend

Hey there, Southern California! Hold onto your umbrellas because it looks like we’re in for a rainy weekend. Starting on Saturday, a storm is making its way down from central California, bringing along much-needed late April showers and some much cooler temperatures.

What to Expect This Weekend

The National Weather Service has forecasted that the majority of the rain will hit Saturday afternoon, with Los Angeles seeing an impressive 80% chance of rain. If you’re in the Los Angeles area, don’t forget to grab that raincoat before heading out!

But it’s not just LA that will be feeling the wet weather. Other areas will see their fair share of precipitation, too. For instance, you can expect about a 20% chance of rain over in San Diego, while Newport Beach and Temecula are looking at chances of 40% and 30%, respectively. So, keep those rain boots nearby!

Rainfall Predictions

As for how much rain to expect? Well, forecasts have recently been updated to predict:

  • Los Angeles and Ventura counties can anticipate about a third of an inch.
  • Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties are looking at up to half an inch.

With Southern California having experienced less than half of its average rainfall for the month up to now, this rain could be a welcome relief for many!

Chillier Temperatures on the Horizon

But it’s not just the rain you’ll need to prepare for; temperatures are on a cool down as well. On Friday, don’t be surprised if you feel a chill in the air. Thanks to a deep marine layer and strong onshore flow, afternoon highs could be about 10 degrees below normal for this time of year.

In Riverside County, locals should gear up for rain and even possible thunderstorms after 11 a.m. on Saturday. Expect temperatures to hover between 60 and 65 degrees throughout the day. Meanwhile, those near the coast can also expect rain from late morning into early afternoon, with temperatures ranging from 61 to 66 degrees.

What’s Happening After the Weekend Storm

The storm is expected to move out by Saturday evening, but don’t put away those rain boots just yet! There might still be enough residual moisture left for a few showers to pop up overnight into Sunday morning. However, Sunday is expected to be drier overall with slightly warmer temperatures across the region.

Keep an Eye on the Mountains

If you’re planning on heading to the mountains, be aware that a winter weather advisory has been issued. Forecasts predict about 3 to 5 inches of snow by Saturday night. This might make for some fun times on the slopes, but be careful on those winding mountain roads!

Temperature Rundown

Here’s a quick breakdown for the weekend:

  • Los Angeles and Orange counties will see highs of around 62 degrees with varying chances of rain.
  • Venues in the valleys and Inland Empire will be looking at a 70% chance of rain and highs around 60 degrees.
  • Beach areas can expect rain with highs around 61 degrees and lows dipping to about 53 degrees.
  • Mountain regions will only reach about 42 degrees, with lows plunging to as low as 20 degrees. So, it’s definitely winter up there!
  • Desert dwellers should brace for some gusty winds, facing highs around 54 degrees and lows of about 39 degrees.

Here’s to a Cozy Weekend!

So, whether it’s a weekend of cozying up indoors or braving the drizzle, it’s all part of the Southern California charm! Embrace the weather as another chance to appreciate the unique beauty of our region—rain or shine!
